Ramon had this awesome day planned at the beach under a totally clear sky, and of course, he brought along the Smithm RCM KCR Pro to show off.
Things were looking great until, oops, he accidentally crashed it into a fence post, which ended up breaking a lower front suspension arm.
No worries, though! He’s already ordered a replacement part because accidents happen.
Even with the hiccup, he shared some cool run footage, giving us insights about the car’s tires.
He found that while the current tires do pretty well on hard or compacted sand, they aren’t fantastic for sandy traction.
So, he’s planning to showcase some other popular tire options that can really boost the car’s performance on those sandy surfaces..
What happened at the beach with the vehicle?
So, here’s the scoop: I had to lift my vehicle to give it some clearance, and that’s when I stumbled upon a bummer of an accident.
Turns out, I hit a log on the beach, which broke my front suspension arm—yikes! I totally admit it was my fault, but no worries, I’ve already ordered a replacement for that broken lower suspension arm.
Oh, and let’s not forget about the tires I introduced: the Mad Max super grips! They’re all the rage for on-road racing and won’t break the bank either..
How Do I Choose the Right Tires?
So, here’s the deal: if your rear tire is rubbing on the steering arm when you’re making turns, it’s a good idea to switch to a skinnier front tire.
You might also need to do a bit of grinding if you want to use a rear tire up front.
For a smooth ride, HPI Baja front rib tires and HPI Baja 5B rear tires are a perfect fit since they won’t rub.
I’m also thinking about using 1/5 scale Arma Creighton tires to get a wider footprint for better sand performance.
This way, the vehicle can grip harder and accelerate smoothly.
And if I can find smaller diameter paddles in 1/5 scale, I might just go for those instead of sticking with what I’ve got..
What should you know about car tire maintenance?
So, here’s the scoop on car maintenance—specifically about those pesky tires.
The recent break wasn’t due to any factory failings; it happened because the car hit a log, which led to the arm needing a replacement that’s already on the way.
Right now, the ride is running on 8S, but we’ve noticed some ballooning with the stock tires.
This is a big deal because it could risk damaging the body if we push it too hard, so we’re sticking with the 8S setup for now.
We’re also looking at tweaking the clearance with the current tires and maybe even switching things up with Outcast tires.
